A Teacher And Student Have Been Arrested In Connection With Taranganya School Fire

Following a fire incident at Taranganya Boys High school in Migori county ,a teacher and a Form Four student have been arrested .

The fire which razed down a dormitory is reported to have started at 9.30 pm Saturday November 4, shortly before the school’s principal Mr Gabriel Kiyeny alerted police.

“It was established that an unknown person jumped over the school fence and set on fire the two storey Twiga Dormitory’s ground floor which houses about 200 students,” said the police report.

“The entire ground floor went up in flames and students’ property of unknown value was destroyed but no injuries were reported,” the report added.

According to Kehancha Sub County Police Commander Cletti Kimaiyo, the teacher and the student are the main suspect for the Saturday evening incident.

The students were sent home after the management accused them of planning to burn the school over various grievances.

But despite the suspension, the school’s 630-capacity form one dormitory was set ablaze Sunday, in a daring incident that occurred at 10am.

Firefighters from Siaya County were immediately called in to try put out the blaze.

Bondo Deputy County Commissioner Richard Karani said an investigation had been launched.

“It is true there is a fire incident at Maranda High School ,we have a team on the ground and an investigation has been launched.”He said
