Five students from Itierio Girls High School in Kisii County who attempted to torch down a dormitory at the school have been arraigned at the Kisii Law Courts.
The five girls were charged with attempted arson before Senior Resident Magistrate Paul Mutai.
“November 9, 2021, at about 4 am the girls jointly attempted to unlawfully set fire to a building namely Elgon Dormitory the property of Itierio girls high school.” Read part of the charge sheet.
They students were further charged for being in possession of a sanitizer and a gas lighter within the school compound.
They all pleaded not guilty and were each released on a bond of Ksh.50,000 or a cash bail of Ksh.20,000.
The case is set for hearing on November 29, 2021.
This incident comes at a time there is a surge of unrest cases in basic learning institutions within the country.
To curb those situations, the government ordered all secondary and primary schools to close for a mid-term break on friday November 19 to Tuesday November 23.
