Kakamega Boys High School On Fire, Check More Details Here

Two hostels at Kakamega High School were torched on Saturday morning.

There are 584 students staying in two hostels.

No casualty was reported during the fire as the students were out for morning preparations when the fire broke out.

Principal Gerald Orina said efforts by the students to put out the fire were in vain.

“No student was injured, only their property was destroyed. I am appealing to the parents to remain calm as we are investigating the cause of the fire,” he said.

Daniel Mutisya, deputy boss of Kakamega Central Police, said the fire was brought under control with the help of the fire brigade from Kakamega’s county government.

Saturday morning’s fires are the latest in a wave of fires as schools experience unrest.

Principals have said last year’s prolonged closure of schools to contain Covid-19 could have led to a return of arson attacks in secondary schools.

Over the years, the second term of the school calendar has been characterized by chaos, with students tearing down school structures.

Other schools that have experienced fires in the past few weeks are Buruburu Girls, Chavakali Boys in Vihiga County and Kanjuri High School in Nyeri.
