The Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) 2020 examination results will be released on Thursday, April 15, just three weeks after the learners wrote their last paper. The 1, 187, 517 candidates began their tests on Monday, March 22, after nearly a year of a disrupted school calendar due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Rehearsals for the national exams were done across the country on Friday, March 19, with COVID-19 containment measures like sanitisation and social distancing being put in place ahead of the exercise. The candidates’ learning was interrupted on March 16, 2020, days after the country recorded its first case of COVID-19. The schools were reopened on October 12, 2020.
2021 Form One placement
The 2020 KCPE candidates will have to stay home a little longer before joining Form One as compared to learners from previous years. They will join secondary schools on July 26, 2021, going by the education ministry’s calendar. Three weeks ago, Early Learning and Basic Education Principal Secretary Julius Jwan said the government was targeting 100% transition, adding every one of the candidates has the basic right of high school education. The PS also cautioned school principals against extorting money from parents warning those found in contravention of his directive will face disciplinary action.
