KNEC Starts Paying KCSE 2020 Examiners As CBA Training Draws Closer

The long wait is finally over after the Kenya National Examination Council rolled out payment of teachers who participated in the marking of KCPE and KCSE 2020 exams.

KNEC payment comes after close to three months since teachers participated in the marking exercise that took place during the month of April.

French and Music teachers who participated in the marking exercise are among the first examiners who have received their dues via M-pesa.
Highly placed sources within the council have intimated that all the national examination examiners and other human resource will receive their dues before the CBC training that is slated for July Holiday.

English Paper III pays the highest among written exams, at Sh77 per script, while Biology Paper II examiners earn Sh50 per script, the lowest. English Paper III examiners have a ceiling of 650 scripts to mark and should not mark less than 300.

A paper like Chemistry Paper 1 earns an examiner only Sh51, maths Sh57 for both papers, and English Paper 1 Sh58.

Examiners who participated in the marking of KCSE 2020 exam were given an advance at a flat rate of Sh10,000 upon completing the marking. Previously they used to receive Sh20,000.

Supervisors and invigilators were paid during the month of May. The highest paid Supervisor was paid a total of Sh12,510 while the highest paid invigilator earned Sh9860.

Centre Managers for the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education, KCPE, exams pocketed a daily subsistence allowance of Sh500; for a total of 4 days (including rehearsal day). The exams were done between Monday March 22, 2021 to Wednesday March 24, 2021.

Secondary schools Principals are expected to also earn a daily allowance of Sh500 for 18 days. The KCSE exams started on Friday March 26, 2021 with the last examination day being Wednesday April 21, 2021.

A total of 286,000 professionals were contracted by the KNEC to administer the 2020 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) and Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams.
