Ministry of Education Asks Trained Teachers to Go Back to College

The Ministry of Education published an advertisement in local dailies on Wednesday, July 28, inviting applications to upgrade from unemployed teachers.

Though the advertisement invites only those teachers who are willing to apply for the upgradation, it is clear that soon it will be a mandatory requirement for those who want to be employed by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC).

Advertisement reads:

“All applicants who wish to upgrade from Certificate (ECDE) and Primary Teacher Education (PTE) to Diploma in Early Childhood Teacher Education (DECTE) and Diploma in Primary Teacher Education (DPTE) to be considered for admission in Teacher Training Colleges , they are invited to apply.

“It is an up-gradation program for the above category of trained teachers who are not in service. The school based upgradation program will be available to benefit the teachers who are in service after the normalization of school calendar,” reads the advertisement.

It further stated that: “Application forms are available on the website of the Ministries. Forms can be downloaded from the ministry’s website or hard copies can be obtained from the county director of education (CDE) at no cost.

“Completely filled application forms must be submitted in person by applicants to the Deputy County Director of Education from Thursday July 29 to August 13, 2021. People with special needs are encouraged to apply.

“Candidates are encouraged to register at only one centre. Double registration will lead to automatic qualification. The offer letter will set out the fee and other requirements.

2. Applicant should have a valid ECDE certificate
3. Applicant must be registered by Teachers Service Commission
4. Duration of the course will be 1890 hours
5. The course will be fully residential
6. The trainee will attend all the courses specified in the Program for Upgradation to Diploma in Early Childhood Teacher Education (DECTE).
7. Trainees will have to do 300 hours of teaching practice
To be awarded the Diploma, the trainee must complete the required hours for course work and pass an assessment by the Kenya National Examinations Council
8. Applicants must present evidence of adherence to positive ethics, values ​​and good behavior
9. Admission Requirements for Upgradation to Diploma in Elementary Teacher Education
10. Applicant must have a valid PTE certificate
11. Applicant must be registered by Teachers Service Commission
12. Duration of the course will be 1500 hours
The course will be fully residential
The trainee will attend all the courses specified in the Program for Upgradation to Diploma in Elementary Teacher Education (DPTE).
Trainees will have to do 300 hours of teaching practice
To be awarded the Diploma, the trainee must complete the required hours f0r course work and pass an assessment by the Kenya National Council of Examinations (KNEC).
Applicants must present evidence of adherence to positive ethics, values ​​and good behavior
