The government has kicked off the excercise of constructing over 7000 new schools countrywide in preparation for 2023 when the first grade of CBC will be entering junior secondary.
Following a directive from president Uhuru kenyatta During mashujaa day celebrations in Kirinyaga county, the ministry of education has already identitified Counties that need extra schools.
According to a report released Kakamega county has been given the highest number of new schools at 353 whereby a total of 597 Classroom will be Constructed.
Kakamega is followed by Homabay which has been given 512 classrooms to be built in 293 New Schools.
Others are Bomet 306 Classrooms in 232 new Schools while Kilifi county will get the least number of schools with 133 and 242 Classrooms.
The president had also given express instructions that all contractors for the classrooms will be sourced from the neighborhood.
Now that there will be new junior Secondary Schools, in my considered opinion, TSC should put in place mechanisms of promoting teachers to head these schools.
It’s better if the schools are managed separately independent of senior secondary schools which will be dealing with various pathways of specialisation.
Separating them will also help sought out the issue of stagnation in job groups given that over 7000 Teachers will be Promoted into headship positions.(Opinion)
