Two students of the Michuki Technical college in Kagema,in Muranga County, drowned in the Mathioya River where they were enjoying photoshoot on Sunday evening what a sad news
Identified as friends Hellen and Dan, the two reportedly went for a walk along the river, which is close to a waterfall, with the intention of enjoying by photographing themselves.
However, their happy moment was cut short after the girl slipped into the river in the process of trying to hold her friend to try to save her. Then Dan fell into the river and they both drowned.
Efforts was made by the residents to save the two but it all failed since the area was dark.
On Monday morning, students at the Michuki Technical college and residents of the area camped along the river and waited for the bodies to appear floating
Paul Kalva, one of the students from the institution , said he spent the entire Sunday afternoon with the two before setting out for a walk along the river.
“We had no idea things would turn so tragic, but I urge my colleagues to be careful and avoid this place in order to avoid such cases in near future, Kalawa said.
College principal John Nadirangu said the incident gave a big lose to the institute, pointing to another incident where a student drowned at the same spot two years ago.
“It was an accident like any other as people always used to go there for photoshoots, only both of them became victims,” he aded.
“I would urge the students to stay away from this place for now as we would not like to lose more lives like this,” Nadirangu said.
The bodies of the two were to be retrieved with Kangema OCPD Wambugu assist by the trained divers as soon as possible.
The incident comes barely a week after three students of near by mabe Primary School in Gatanga drowned in the Kiama River.
