Some of the top students who sat for the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education examination may miss out on the schools of their choice. This isbecause of lack of enough space and learning infrastructures in most of the schools accross the country. According to statistics, huge number of learners chose to join the top best National schools that had achieved the status a long time ago and avoided most of the recently promoted schools. News reaching the Newskali Media team is that the officials who are in charge of the selection programme have developed a unique system that will enable learners to be placed in schools that they did not chose earlier when the exercise happened. Speaking to our team, the secretary General for KNUT Wilson Sosion outlined that all parents should not be allowed seek chances for their kids in the old National schools but instead be advised to allow their kids to report to the schools that the Ministry of Education Selected them. He also added that allowing parents to do the same will be a big mistake. Sosion also said that all schools across the country whether public or private have equal teachers with same teaching experiences.
The secretary General urged all the students to join the school which they will be selected immediately after receiving their admission letters and avoid much time wastage. He also added that in kenya, no school will be found without resources. The available resources will be utilised well to the benefit of all learners. Most of Students always avoided choosing schools in counties like, Marsabit, Garissa, Tana River, Mandera, Lamu, West pokot, Wajir etc because of insecurity reasons. To compensate this, Most of them chose the most coveted performing old National schools like Alliance Girls and boys, Mang’u, Starehe Girls, Kenya High, Statehouse girls, Moi girls Eldoret, Maranda high and many more. Leading student in the 2020 KCSE examinations Simiyu Robinson Wanjala hailed from Murang’a High School, the school that was recently promoted toa National school status due to good performance in the year 2014 showing that any learner can excel from any school. While issuing the result, Magoha noted that overall performance by 2020 had a positive improvement than in 2019. The Cabinet Secretary, Prof. Mago ha also announced that the government would provide 9000 bursaries to students from disadvantaged communities so that every learner will get a chance to access high school education and achieve their dreams regardless of their backgrounds.
