Teachers Service Commission has announced promotion for more than 2400 senior teachers. It is in line with Career Progression Guidelines(CPG) for teachers.
Senior teachers include; Principal, Deputy Principal, Senior Masters, Head Teachers, Deputy Head Teachers, Curriculum Support Officer, Senior Teachers and Senior Lecturers.
As stated by Secretary Dr. Nancy Macharia, the vacancies will cover all of the above.
The commission plans to recruit over 1,300 secondary teachers, senior masters, deputy principals, primary teachers, senior teachers, deputy head teachers and head teachers as per the CPG. Difficult for teachers and staff areas in arid and semi-arid lands (ASALs).
Those to be recruited include; 53 Chief Principal, 51 Senior Principal, 49 Principal, 33 Vice Principal I and 15 Deputy Principal II, 233 Deputy Principal II, Senior Teacher I and Senior Teacher II.
In a public notice yesterday, Macharia said, “Interested candidates, who fulfill the essential qualification, may submit their applications online through TSC portal so as to be received on or before September 28. Consideration of manual application.” will not be done.”
TSC has also invited applications for the recruitment of 1,995 intern teachers. The posts mentioned by Dr. Macharia include 1,038 for primary and 957 for secondary schools.
Intern teachers are required to upload valid copies of appointment letter for current grade and responsibility, certificate of good conduct from Directorate of Criminal Investigation as well as clearance certificate from Higher Education Credit Board, Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission, Credit Reference Bureau . and the Kenya Revenue Authority.
In a public notice, Macharia said, “Teacher internship is a one-year program to equip and maintain the competencies of persons entering the teaching service.”
Macharia said the monthly salary of intern teachers attached to primary schools would be Ksh.15,000, while those in secondary schools would receive Ksh.20,000, which would be paid subject to statutory deduction, where applicable.
After completing the internship, the teachers will be given a certificate.
The following are the requirements for trainee teachers;
1. Applicants must be registered with TSC
2. Must be P1 certificate holder for primary school teachers
3. Minimum Diploma in Education Certificate for Secondary School Teachers.
4. Original academic and vocational certificate and should not be in previous employment with TSC as teacher on permanent terms.
Intern teachers must be ready to work in any part of the country as TSC will be posting them randomly in any part of the country. They should also have their own personal accident cover as TSC will not cover them during the internship period.
Once the online application is done, a merit list for intern teachers will be prepared by county directors between September 28 and September 30.
This will be followed by county selection from October 8 to 15 and the final list will be submitted to TSC for final scrutiny.
After this, complaints will be reviewed and disposed of at the county level between October 21 and 29.
Later between November 15 and 19, the Internship Agreement and the Offer of Internship Letter will be signed and issued.
The interns will then report to the schools on January 3 next year.
