TSC To Reduce The Interns’ Salaries Starting November 2021

TSC has hinted plans of reducing intern salaries starting October 2021. Reliable sources indicate that the TSC CEO Nancy Macharia is planning to allocate money towards the TPD program which will sharpen teachers skills.

As a result, the commission is almost coming to terms to reduce the intern salaries for high school teachers from sh. 20,000- sh. 15,000 and for primary interns from sh. 15,000- sh. 10,000.

The deducted amount will help the commission pay the tutors who are going to offer the TPD Program to teachers and acquired the necessary materials.

But hope is not lost as other sources from the commission had hinted that the stipends will later be reverted back to normalcy starting February 2022.

Therefore, those interns who will happen to be absorbed by the commission in the upcoming interview will have their sh. 15,000 monthly stipend for high school and sh. 10,000 for primary interns.

The salary will cut across as from November 2021 for all interns as the TPD modules are set to onset.

Teachers who secure job with Teachers Service Commission under internship programme are required to serve for a period of one year.

However, it is important to remember that if TSC advertises employment vacancies on permanent terms, intern teachers are eligible to apply.

Unsatisfactory performance or failure to conform to the standards of conduct prescribed for the Internship may lead to termination of the internship at the initiative of the Commission or an Officer or Agent of the Commission.

According to TSC internship agreement, Internship will be non-remunerative. However, interns will be paid a stipend as may be determined  by the Commission from time to time. In this regard, the Commission will make budgetary provision on an annual basis.

This amount is subjected to two deductions; National Social Security Fund (NSSF)  Kes. 200.00 and National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF) kes. 750.00. Total deductions sum up to Kes. 950.00.

After all deductions have been made, the intern teacher takes home Kes. 14,090.00. for high school interns while for primary interns will part with sh. 9,150
