Uganda Takes Kenya To Court

A Ugandan citizen filed a complaint against Kenya at the East African Court of Justice in Arusha on Friday, 6 August.

Dr Paul Bamutaz complains after statements made by a section of Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Members of Parliament against the National Resistance Movement (NRM) during a press conference held in Parliament on Wednesday, 4 August.

In court documents seen by Kenyans.co.ke, the applicant listed the Attorney General of the Republic of Kenya as a defendant and was given 45 days to file a response.

Vice President William Ruto speaks at a burial in Chony, Kilifi County on July 17, 2021.

“You are hereby informed that the above applicant has established a reference against you, a copy of which is enclosed herewith. You are hereby required to file a reply within 45 days from the day of service, the reference shall be heard and your has been determined in absentia,” reads except the document.

During the press conference, ODM President John Mbadi accused Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni of disrespecting Kenya.

In addition, Mbadi alleged that Museveni was pushing his political ideologies on Kenya.

“We are not concerned about whether Ruto is approved or not, we are interested in his relationship with Uganda,” the ODM president said.

On his part, Suna’s former MP, Junett Mohamed, alleged that Ruto’s visits to Uganda meant the DP would not accept if he lost next year’s general election.

“Ruto wants to take advantage of desperate people and ride to power, therefore pushing them into deep misery. Ruto’s relationship with Museveni is to create chaos if he loses in 2022,” Junet said.

On Monday, 2 August, DP was on his way to Kampala when he was stopped from leaving the country.

In an interview, DP said that the decision to deny him the right to leave the country was politically provoked by leadership differences between him and President Uhuru Kenyatta’s allies.

“Since when did I start taking permission? I have been a DP for nine years, and I have traveled far and wide in East Africa and around the world and have never been asked for approval,” the DP said.
